African Pride, another big sprinting son of Ridgemont's versatile super sire, Rafeef, bounced back to winning ways with a pillar-to-post win in a Pinnacle Stakes over 1000m at Turffontein on 7 June, 2026. His time was a fast 56.19s.
In-form jockey Mickaelle Michelle said: "I felt so small when I had to climb on him. I think he is the biggest horse I've ever ridden! He took the lead under 48kg and was just cantering. It was hard for the other horses to catch him."
Corne Spies commented: "I am disappointed he hasn't won all of his 11 starts as he really is a horse with lots of ability. We gave him a bit of a break after his last run. He's come back full of running and hopefully he will go on from here. This will bring him on very nicely."
Corne congratulated African Pride's owners, the ISpy Racing Syndicate, of which UK-based Chris Brown is the nominee. "I'm sure Chris and his bunch of 'spies' are going wild!"
Rob MacNab represented the Syndicate on course.
