Bisou Bisou set the fastest 1000m time on the day with a smart winning debut at Turffontein On Sunday, 14 June.
He broke loose at the start, but was taken in hand and didn’t display any jitters in the race itself. He accelerated smartly from just off the pace and beat Rivera, a colt held in high regard, with a measure of ease.
Jockey Callan Murray commented: “Bisou Bisou is actually a very sweet horse. I rode him at the track on Wednesday. Perhaps breaking away before the race just woke him up. He sat just behind them and quickened, which showed a bit of class.”
Xander Spies was on hand for the lead-in and commented: “One’s heart is always in one’s throat when this happens before a race, but Callan gave Bisou Bisou a beautiful ride and he won in facile fashion.”
Bisou Bisou is owned by Braam van Huyssteen and Xander noted: “He was named by Braam’s daughter Bianca. Bisou Bisou is ‘kiss kiss’ in French. He has a heart shape on his forehead.”
Bisou Bisou was bred by Jan Mantel at Millstream Farm. He is a son of Querari and Bold Nimph, by Shamardal.
